Press release: Children enjoy final outing on July 22

The children from Chernobyl will end their summer visit with a trip to the zoo and a cookout at Babson College.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2008, the children from Chernobyl and their host families will enjoy a trip to the Franklin Park Zoo.  After enjoying the zoo, the children will be treated to a cookout at Babson College in Wellesley, MA.  The students, staff and volunteers at Babson will provide food, fun and activities for the children.

This is the final social outing for the 73 children who arrived on June 24.  They will be returning home on July 24, after four weeks of medical care and respite.  The Chernobyl tragedy that occurred in April 1986 continues to be the worst radiation catastrophe that has ever occurred, and the effect of it has not gone away. These children – not yet born at the time of the accident – live in regions of Russia and Belarus that remain contaminated with radioactive material. CCP is the largest organization in the U.S. that provides medical treatment and respite care for children from the Chernobyl-affected areas of Belarus and Russia.
