Letter to Project from Russia, June 2010

“Chernobyl Project: help continues.

CCP-USA provided humanitarian aid in amount of $10000 for the Children hospital maintenance in March, 2010.. It is not the first donation from this organization. The Children Hospital was sponsored for an equipment purchase (immature infants incubator, the department of physical therapy was completely re-equipped), some necessary maintenance work has been done.
15 American volunteers and 40 Russians from Klintsy and Bryank, predominantly parents of children received treatment in USA, repaired patient’s rooms in pediatric department on the second floor of the children hospital last year. A lot of presents were gifted to the little patients by Americans, which are personal hygiene products, toys, books, hand made blankets sewed with love by American school students.

Since 1997 Klintsy’s children in need of medical aid abroad were hosted by American families and have been received treatment in the best Boston’s clinics during a month. Russian physicians communicated with American ones in regards of treatment options of most prevalent pediatric diseases among children from the south-west of Bryank’s region.

The problems of the children hospital are not forgotten at present time as well. American humanitarian financial funds will be used for repair of still not repaired second floor: manipulation room, dining hall, corridors and an entrance. Necessary furniture and medical equipment will be purchased. Volunteers, including parents and school students will participate in the hospital repair.

The children hospital administration thanks American friends for a care, understanding and support. Despite on crisis time we hope for a help from the patrons of our town because there are still a lot of problems in the hospital. We also hope for a governmental help. The prime-minister V. V. Putin noted at the end of April that there were many hospitals in the regions in very poor conditions and in need of major repair. The prime-minister proposed an increase of medical insurance deduction to 2% starting 2011. He suggested directing these funds to the repair and equipment of regional hospitals based on real programs of public health development. There is very little time available for implementation of such programs. Until the children hospital future is under determination, we are getting a help from abroad.

American Chernobyl Project facing economic difficulties has changed the way of support. As Project’s Medical Director O.L. Gordeev told, the attention will be directed to the financial support of the children hospital, town’s institutions, working with kids and mass media support of medical staff professional activities. There is a plan to set up on-line contact of pediatric outpatient clinic with Floating hospital in Boston. Pediatricians will be able to consult American colleagues in complex cases and to mutually select kids for medical help in USA. Americans are planning to come to our town with friendly visit in the fall.”
