At the heart of the Chernobyl Children Project USA is the “host family.” Without the compassion and willingness of these families the project could not be a success. The host families help raise money for the children’s voyage to the states then open their homes, share their lives and offer their love to the children.
Host families provide a myriad of experiences to the children from swimming, sailing, hiking, Harbor Cruises, baseball games, soccer games, visits to museums, historical sites and more. But perhaps most important, the children are given a chance to relax, to smile, to eat ice cream and simply enjoy the company of caring families. In their month-long stay, the children flourish and grow, returning to their homeland with love and renewed spirits.
