Being a Host Family: Is this for us?

Are we ready to welcome two children into our home to share our space, our time, our attention and our family life?

Are our own children ready to make room in their lives, share the attention of their parents, share their rooms, toys, things, etc.?

Are we ready to sacrifice our normal daily routine to deal with new communication techniques, a homesick child, or an occasional discipline issues that may be disruptive to our home routine?

Can we apply our family rules to our guests?

Can we be open, flexible, creative and unconditionally loving?

Can we count on support from extended family, neighbors and friends?

Can we help our community raise funds to meet the travel costs for the children?

Can we commit to the training sessions and read all of the information supplied by the Project?

The children arrive with very little clothing, supplies, etc. Can we afford the additional expense of two more children in our family budget?

Can we attend all MANDATORY Chernobyl events, many in the Boston area?

Can we accept the extra responsibility of coordinating transportation to the medical appointments both locally and possibly in the greater Boston area such as at The Floating Hospital?

Can we face the reality that we will love and care for these children as our own and then have to send them home to their families?
